Animated Films

Professional video artist teaches students how to make animated videos using flip books, claymation or paper cutouts on subjects ranging from verbs to environments. Combines research, mathematics, English language arts, and art skills.

Computer Comics

After students have learned basic cartooning skills, they use the scho0l's computer drawing applications and scanners, if available, to create their own political cartoons, comic books, and posters.

Computer Technology

A Leap artist integrates computer technology into all curriculum areas teaching students to use computers, the Internet, and school software. The Leap artist will create, for example, giant graphs and treasure maps related to American History studies.

Desktop Publishing

A Leap computer consultant helps students create theme-based books using the school’s computers. Topics range from the study of the systems of the human body to the study of Ancient Egypt.

Digital Photography

After studying the principles of photography from composition to camera angles, students use the school's equipment to take digital photographs. They learn how to import these images to school computers and then how to manipulate the images using simple photo-editing software. Finally, they write texts to accompany their images and create photo essays and books.

Junior Edison-- Creating Inventions to Solve Everyday Needs

Working with a Leap consultant, students design and create working models of their own inventions. Teaches basic physics and mathematics.

Publications and Activity Books by Students

Using the school computers, students create activity books about various subjects ranging from diverse cultures to specialized occupations.  The students research their topic on the Internet and then use desktop publishing applications to illustrate and format their books.
