Project VIBE

Grades 3-12

LEAP’s Project VIBE invites students to discover storytelling through movement, where the body becomes both pen and paper. Rooted in the fusion of spoken word, narrative, and dance, the program guides students to translate words, themes, and emotions into physical expression. Through improvisation, choreography, and collaboration, participants learn how movement can carry narrative, mood, and imagery—crafting stories that are spoken not only with voices, but with the whole body.

Poetry in Motion is a movement-based residency designed for youth in grades K-12 that combines storytelling and dance. By using poetry as the driving force, students will explore literary devices and learn how to use those tools to inform movement exploration and devising.

In this program, students explore the language of poetry by reading, writing, speaking, and embodying poetry. Teaching Artists introduce students to noted poets of color who reflect the lived experiences of students and whose poems include social justice themes. Poets have included Sharon G. Flake, Tupak Shakur, Maya Angelou, Greg Smedley-Warren, and Langston Hughes.
